IATA revises cargo growth forecast for 2026

According to the trade body’s latest financial outlook for the global airline industry, cargo volumes are expected to reach 71.7m tonnes in 2026, up 0.2% year on year.

This is in contrast to IATA’s prediction at its World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in March that air cargo growth would stabilise at 2.6% this year, although this was measured by cargo tonne km (CTK) as opposed to tonnes.

In March, just after the Middle East conflict started, there was a 4.8% year on year decrease in air cargo demand, measured by CTK.
